Maria has considerable experience in urban practice and consultancy, with a strong focus on innovation and applied technologies to City Design and Masterplanning. She is co-founder and CEO of Mediaurban and is committed to urban transformation and social progress. Having served as Projects Director at the Barcelona City Council, she now leads a multidisciplinary team whose aim is to transform the world we live in through real improvements in real cities.
She has received several awards as an independent architect and has worked for local governments and international organisations such as UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), the World Bank Institute, Medcities Network, and Barcelona Metropolitan Area Cooperation Unit. She has served on the Board of the Catalan Architects Association (COAC), the Metropolitan Strategical Plan of Barcelona and the Cultural Foundation of the Caixa d'Arquitectes.
Maria holds an MSc in City Design and Social Sciences from the London School of Economics and is a regular contributor to specialized media. She has been Lecturer at the Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism at La Salle (PAMUS) and is co-director of the new Master in Urban Management at the Barcelona School of Management, Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
Joan-Anton has over 15 years experience as a policy analyst in the fields of spatial planning, strategic development and urban governance for the Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council.
He is responsible for the design and content of urban strategies and his professional interests are focused on the links between innovation, social sciences and city development.
Trained as a geographer and anthropologist, he holds a PhD in History and Civilization from the European University Institute in Florence. He was director of strategic analysis at the Mayor's Office, Barcelona City Council (2011-2015). He has taught social innovation and entrepreneurship at the Full Time IDEC-UPF MBA, and is co-director of the new Master in Urban Management at the Barcelona School of Management, UPF. Author of several articles and essays on the history of cities, spatial planning, urban governance, culture and society.
Elia has professional experience in urban design practice and strategic projects. She holds an MSc Territorial and Population Studies from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Professional Master in Project Management. She has worked for different architectural and urban planning offices and was awarded the Institut Cerdà Prize in 2014, providing her with the opportunity to research innovation and cities development around the 22@ district.
Her interests range from urban planning to entrepreneurial initiatives, with a strong focus on citizen engagement and incremental transformation of urban spaces.
Jokin is an enthusiast of City Design. He has worked for the Urban Projects team at the Barcelona City Council, in the field of IoT of Public Space and Sensorised Environments. He has conducted research on tourism flows and pedestrian movement. Prior to that he worked in MAP Architects. He was awarded a Scholarship to further his research at the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
He is currently developing innovative urban transformation projects for the Barcelona City Council and other public and private organizations.
Federico is a trained architect with an interest in urban design. He has experience in design and execution of building and public space projects. He has worked in the real estate sector in Barcelona and, between 2013 and 2015, he was employed at the landscape department of BB+GG architects working in international projects. Federico's main area of interest is the city and its mechanics; in 2011 he participated in a month-long international workshop in Rosario, Argentina about development in urban peripheries, while studying urbanism in Paris, France.
Álvaro is a passionate urban designer with experience in the design and execution of building and public space projects. Between 2013 and 2015 he worked in the building department of Alain Wolff architects, in Switzerland, while simultaneously collaborating with the SIA - Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects, organizing exhibitions and conferences about the emerging Swiss architecture. Between 2015 and 2016 he worked in the landscape department of Batlle i Roig in international projects.
Nicolás collaborates with Mediaurban in producing high quality audio-visual content about the deployment of Smart City urban strategies and project implementation all over the world. Trained in cinematography in Buenos Aires and Barcelona, he works as producer and director of photography for leading film productions and is the founder and producer of Visum Studio. He has worked as a fashion photographer for designers like Leo Peralta or Valmizar.
Germán assists Meidaurban's management unit in the coordination of the different projects and events, helping the members of our team during the project management process. With studies in international marketing, he is currently pursuing a Dual Superior Degree in Finance and Administration with a view at completing his university training. Germán volunteers in different social, cultural and educational organisations in Barcelona.
